Although voluntary, submission of your U.S. Social
Security number (SSN) is strongly encouraged. In providing a SSN, we create a
unique profile to verify information provided as well as process enrollment forms and supporting credentials submitted. In compliance
with federal and state regulations, your SSN is required to enroll at the
College of Charleston. If you do not have a U.S. SSN or prefer not to provide it at this time, please enter all zeroes

College of Charleston is proud to offer
programs and services to veterans, military personnel and their dependents .
Providing information about military affiliations is optional but is asked so
that we may provide you with information about services and opportunities that
may be available, including in-state tuition eligibility.
Military personnel or children of military personnel will be
classified as non-residents until approved as South Carolina residents by the
Office of Legal Residency. Additional documentation to verify eligibility for
in-state tuition may be required.
Citizenship and Visa Information
South Carolina Law requires that you present proof of citizenship or legal presence in the U.S. prior to registering for classes at the College of Charleston. The College of Charleston will attempt to verify student citizenship via legally authorized federal or state databases before asking students to submit proof of citizenship. If your status cannot be verified through one of these databases, then during new student orientation and/or prior to registration of classes you will need to provide one of the following items:
- Your processed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Aid) to College of Charleston (our code number is 003428);
- A valid South Carolina driver's license issued after January 1, 2002;
- A current U.S. Passport;
- An original U.S. or U.S. Territory Birth Certificate (not hospital certificate), Certification of Naturalization, U.S. Government-issued Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certificate of Citizenship.
Note: A complete and correct Certificate of Finance is required for admission. A Form I-20 cannot be issued until you have completed this certificate, returned it by the appropriate date, and been admitted to the College.
Original documents are required for verification. No copies will be accepted. However, we only need to view original documents, and they will not be retained by the College of Charleston.
